She came to Newark through the Teach for America program to teach students in the subject of English. She was an active union member, co-founding the Newark Education Workers Caucus, a social justice caucus within the Newark Teachers Union. Additionally, Leah is a doctoral student in the Urban Systems program at Rutgers-Newark, where she received a Master of Public Administration degree. She earned her B.A. in English from Duke University. Leah resides in the South Ward of Newark and can be reached at
